Pastor Charles E. Marshall, Sr, has served as Pastor for over 15 years.  He was licensed as a Baptist Minister on January 11, 1981, while serving as a faithful steward at the Aijalon Baptist Church, under the leadership of the late Reverend O.V. Harrison.  From there God called him to form a Home Visitation Ministry where he was compelled to visit the sick and shut-in.  Because of Pastor Marshall’s unselfish love and dedication in the ministry- he won the heart of not only the sick, but their family members as well.  Through his deep and sincere love for the Lord- many of the family members gave their lives to the Lord.  This proved the words of Jesus in St. John 13:35, when He said, “By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another”.

     In addition to his Home Visitation Ministry, in 1982- God called Pastor Marshall to form a street Ministry, where he was led to minister to the neighborhood of the Brewster-Douglas Housing Projects, located on the eastside of Detroit.  He also did the same for the Jeffries Project on the westside of Detroit, during the same period.  From these ministries, Pastor Marshall witnessed many souls saved and lives turned to Christ.  Pastor Marshall also witnessed many other amazing miracles performed by God- through this powerful ministry.  Many lost souls who were bound by evil spirits and demons, were freed under his ministry.  Others who had not spoken for years because their tongues had been tied by Satan- spoke again, through the power of the Holy Ghost- working in and through Pastor Marshall’s ministry. There was others who doctor’s had no hope of curing, only to be healed by the Pastor’s anointing prayers. Once again, many witnessed the words of Jesus in St. Luke 16:17-18, when He said, “… in my name, shall they cast out devils.  They shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.”  And to this day- God is still transforming lives, through the Ministry of the beloved Pastor Marshall.

     On August 19, 1985, Pastor Lee of Beulah Grove Baptist Church in Detroit, confirmed that God came to him and compelled him to ordain Pastor Marshall for further work in His vineyard.  On November 25, 1985, he was ordained by a 7 Pastor Panel- who laid hands on Pastor Marshall and prayed over him, and sent him forth to do greater works, in God’s kingdom.  In 1990, God called Pastor Marshall to do a work in Zion Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Detroit, as an Associate Pastor- under the leadership of the late Pastor Prince Martin for 14 years.  In 2003, God called Pastor Marshall to serve as Assistant Pastor at Baptist Hill Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Willie Guyton.

   In April 2004, the late Elder Thomas Haralson- led by the Holy Spirit and the powerful voice of God (in a dream), called Pastor Marshall – and turned the keys to Smyrna Missionary Baptist Church over to Pastor Marshall.  From that day until this present time- through much prayer, fasting, and patience-and with the help of God, Pastor Marshall and his faithful members have stayed focused on Jesus Christ.. and have remained on the solid rock of the Word of God. 

     Pastor Marshall is married to our First Lady, Lisa Marshall. They are the proud parents of 5 beautiful children, and four beautiful grandchildren.  Pastor Marshall is currently employed at Henry Ford Hospital in the city of Detroit, where he works in the Operating Room- utilizing his skills and faith to save lives each and every day.

     Pastor Charles E. Marshall, Sr, received his Bachelor’s Degree from Wayne State University, and continued at Wayne State in the Master’s of Education Program. He also attended Ecumenical Theological Seminary in Detroit, where he studied Urban Ministry. In 1998, Pastor Marshall earned a Doctorate of Divinity in Biblical Counseling from American Institute of Theology, located in Birmingham, Alabama.

     Over the years, many great men have come and gone.  They have made outstanding contributions to this community, and to the city at large.  We count you, Dr. Charles E.
